Our Story Lives Here

Where shadows dance with light and every corner whispers tales untold

The Journey Behind The Veil

1888

Where It All Started

Built by maritime merchant Theodore Blackwood, the manor stood as Vancouver's most talked-about residence. Rumors swirled about secret passages and midnight gatherings that'd make your grandmother blush. Truth is, old Teddy just really loved his privacy and maybe had a flair for the dramatic.

1923

The Prohibition Years

Officially became a "boarding house" though everyone knew what was really happening in those velvet-draped parlors. That wine cellar? Yeah, it wasn't storing grape juice. The original speakeasy tunnels are now part of our historical tours.

1967

The Artist Colony Era

Transformed into a creative sanctuary for Vancouver's underground art scene. Painters, poets, and musicians filled every room. Some say you can still hear jazz echoing through the halls on quiet nights. We've kept that bohemian spirit alive in our design.

2015

Rebirth As Crimson Veil

After years sitting empty (and honestly pretty spooky), we bought this beauty and spent three years bringing her back to life. Kept every original detail we could - the stained glass, the carved banisters, even that creaky third step everyone trips on. Added modern luxury without killing the soul.

Today

Living History

We're not just running a hotel - we're keeping a century's worth of stories alive. Every guest adds their chapter to this place. That's the real magic here.

Modern Comfort Meets Historic Charm

What We're Really About

No corporate speak here - just honest thoughts about what makes this place tick

Here's the thing - luxury shouldn't feel stuffy or make you nervous about touching stuff. We've spent stupid amounts of money on furnishings and art, sure, but it's all meant to be lived with. Sink into that velvet sofa. Pour yourself another glass of wine at 2am. Use the fancy toiletries.

Real luxury is feeling completely yourself in beautiful surroundings. That's what we're going for. No fake smiles, no uptight dress codes, just genuine hospitality in a place that happens to be drop-dead gorgeous.

Yeah, we lean into the whole mysterious vibe, but it's not manufactured. This building's got legitimate history - secret passages, hidden rooms, stories that'd make great Netflix material. We've kept those elements alive because they're genuinely cool.

But the real mystery? It's about discovery. Finding that perfect reading nook. Stumbling onto the rooftop at sunset. Running into other interesting guests at the wine cellar. We've designed the space so there's always something new to find, even on your third visit.

We're not gonna pretend we don't know you exist, but we're also not gonna hover. Our staff knows when to materialize with exactly what you need and when to make themselves scarce. It's an art form, honestly.

You want restaurant recommendations that aren't tourist traps? Done. Need someone to walk your dog while you're at the spa? We've got a list of local dog walkers we trust. Want to be left completely alone? Not a problem. We adapt to you, not the other way around.

Look, we're not perfect, but we're trying. The building itself is sustainable - we restored instead of demolished. Our gardens are all native plants that don't need much water. The restaurant sources from local farms we actually know personally.

We've got solar panels hidden on the roof (heritage building restrictions, y'know), and our cleaning products won't poison the harbor. Small steps, but they add up. And honestly? It just makes sense to take care of a place this special.

Don't get us wrong - Vancouver's got amazing hotels. But they're either big corporate chains or cute B&Bs. There wasn't really anything in between that had... personality. A place with history and edge and a bit of theater to it.

We wanted somewhere you'd bring someone you're trying to impress - a client, a date, your parents who think you're not doing well enough. Somewhere that photographs well but feels even better in person. That's the gap we're filling, and honestly, it's been a wild ride watching people get it.

Crimson Veil Team

The Folks Behind The Magic

We're a weird mix of hospitality veterans, history nerds, and Vancouver locals who genuinely love this place.

Our general manager used to run a boutique hotel in Paris. Our head chef trained in Montreal but grew up fishing these waters. The concierge team? They've lived in Vancouver their whole lives and know every hidden gem worth finding.

We hire people who actually give a damn. Sounds basic, but you'd be surprised. Most of our staff have been with us since we opened, which tells you something about how we treat our team. Happy employees make for happy guests - it's not rocket science.

You'll see the same faces when you visit again. They'll remember your name, your favorite wine, that you like extra pillows. That's the kind of place we're running here.
